New York Philharmonic Announces 2025-26 Season

On March 11, 2025, the New York Philharmonic announced plans for the 2025–26 season, with Gustavo Dudamel as the Orchestra’s Music and Artistic Director Designate before he becomes the Oscar L.Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music and Artistic Director in September 2026.

Incoming Music and Artistic Director Designate Gustavo Dudamel said: “This is a pivotal moment in the history of the United States, and with our programming this season we seek to explore 250 years of the American Experiment, tracing a musical path from coast to coast and everything in between. From the roots of the Indigenous people, to the rich history of protest and the ongoing fight for human rights, to the complex questions of commerce, value, and our collective economic responsibility, together we will examine our shared nation from its foundation, through triumph and tragedy, to the profound questions we face at present.”

NY Phil President & CEO Matías Tarnopolsky said: “Gustavo’s extraordinary imagination, his passion for the New York Philharmonic, and his love for New York City come together to shape a season that embodies his artistic vision. As Music and Artistic Director Designate in the 2025-26 season, Gustavo embraces the Philharmonic’s rich history while looking boldly ahead, bringing fresh faces and voices to the stage — on the podium, in collaboration, and in theOrchestra itself. This season offers a glimpse into that future: a thrilling blend of Gustavo’s brilliance and the virtuosity of our musicians, all within the beautiful setting of the new David Geffen Hall. And this is only the beginning.”

In the 2025–26 season Gustavo Dudamel conducts six weeks of subscription concerts comprising repertoire ranging from classical cornerstones to World Premieres. Activities include concerts reflecting on the United States during the nation’s 250th anniversary year; a partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for two major large-scale commissioning projects in his valedictory season with that ensemble; and his second New York Philharmonic Spring Gala.
