Platoon releases 'Odyssey', featuring Gustavo Dudamel & the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela

In celebration of 50 years of El Sistema, one of the world’s most visionary music education programmes, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and their Music & Artistic Director Gustavo Dudamel release Odyssey - a sonic journey through the landscapes, rhythms, and soul of Latin America.

The music featured on this new album captures the unfiltered vitality of Latin America’s natural and musical landscapes. Arturo Márquez's Danzon No. 9, dedicated to Dudamel himself, is a vibrant work, deeply routed in cultural identity. Ricardo Lorenz’s Todo Terreno depicts an off-road adventure through the composer's native Venezuela, and Gonzalo Grau’s Odisea displays the distinctive timbre of the Venezuelan cuatro, performed by the phenomenal Jorge Glem - from urban hustle to dreamlike reverie, Grau's music becomes a journey between cities, traditions, and generations.

These visionary works showcase that Latin America’s musical voice belongs at the very heart of the global symphonic tradition.
